Sapien vs Lakmoos: Managed Study or Private Model?

Compare Sapien’s managed research with Lakmoos’s private-model program. Check pilot terms, ongoing ownership and the cost of decisions your team can use.

Three herb pots, seed envelopes and compost beside a printed booklet and a phone with a play symbol, illustrating the Canopy kit’s instruction-format choice in Sapien’s slate, ivory and carbon palette.

Sapien’s team runs studies with simulated audiences. Lakmoos builds private models clients can use for repeated research after setup. Both offer support, so compare the work your team wants to own. This guide connects a first product decision with pilot terms, ongoing responsibilities and the cost of useful decisions.

Sapien can support follow-ups and further studies too. The choice is who will frame, run and interpret the continuing work, not whether only one provider allows another question.

The continuing research work needs an owner

The Lakmoos describes a private-model workflow uses customer data to build a model for repeated client research. Its science page describes a proprietary hybrid AI method and private enterprise data layer.

Sapien builds simulated audiences from purchase, behavioral, demographic and research data, with optional customer and past-study context. Our team handles audience building, the study and interpretation. Our audience-building guide explains the process and interactive report.

Dimension

Documented offerings

Research ownership

Sapien: Our team builds the audience, runs the study and helps interpret findings.

Lakmoos: Its team builds a private model; clients can run surveys and interviews after setup.

Customer context

Sapien: Customer data and past research are optional inputs.

Lakmoos: Private customer-data integration is part of its custom-model workflow.

What to inspect

Sapien: Interactive report, segment comparisons, responses, recommendations and follow-ups.

Lakmoos: Model fit, research outputs, setup support and the internal team's ability to use them.

Commercial scope

Sapien: Request a quote for the study and deliverables.

Lakmoos: A published pilot precedes a possible ongoing program; confirm limits and full terms.

Both providers include expertise and support. Choose how much ongoing research work your team wants to own after setup.

Example: a garden kit and a longer research plan

Canopy is a hypothetical garden retailer introducing a $35 balcony herb kit with $5 shipping and no subscription. It includes three pots, compost and basil, mint and parsley seeds. At the same price, compare printed instructions with printed instructions plus QR-linked video guidance.

Canopy also wants a private customer model for seasonal ranges. Its old surveys cover gardeners generally, not just balcony growers. Check that narrower audience before paying for ongoing research.

For Sapien, compare the complete kit presentations with target buyers, including beginners and experienced growers where useful. Ask whether the instructions address trial barriers. Return the presentation to develop, audience and question needing a customer trial.

For a Lakmoos pilot, check the kit decision and the capability Canopy wants to keep. Use three acceptance checks:

  • Audience fit: the provider explains which evidence supports balcony gardeners and which gaps remain. A detailed model of all gardeners does not settle that narrower coverage question.
  • Decision use: the team can inspect why the presentations differ and turn the output into a kit or instruction change. A preference number without that interpretation leaves the product team stuck.
  • Internal ownership: a named researcher can frame the next question, check the output and decide when the model needs new evidence or provider support.

If those checks pass and real decisions are waiting, an ongoing program may help. If only the kit question needs research support now, buy that study first. Recurring access is useful when the team can turn it into decisions.

What does “unlimited” include?

Lakmoos currently publishes a €10,000 pilot: one focused model, up to ten past surveys or datasets, and one month for two to five users with training. The listed allowance includes 500 survey questions and 200 interview questions. Confirm how those units are counted and which follow-ups use the allowance.

Plan against decisions your team actually expects to use. Allocating the €10,000 pilot fee across two usable decision readouts gives €5,000 per decision; across ten, €1,000, before internal staff costs. These are planning scenarios, not promised study counts. Confirm whether the scope and question allowances cover your agenda.

Lakmoos also promotes ongoing access “from 4k/month,” without a currency on that line. Confirm currency, scope, support and minimum term. Request Sapien’s deliverables and full fee for the same Canopy study.

Validation needs to fit the model’s job

Lakmoos’s Škoda X case describes a January–March 2024 proof of concept followed by validation and organizational ramp-up. The vendor reports five full research projects, 36 internal testers and departmental training; it also describes comparisons with conventional human surveys in its evaluation plan. The case is useful for assessing both a model and an internal team’s ability to run research. It does not validate Canopy’s gardening audience.

Our synthetic-user evidence page reports task-specific human comparisons and misses. Ask about your audience, question and error. A simulated reason for kit appeal is different from watching customers grow the herbs.

Choose the kit study and its future owner

Ask both firms who finishes the study, explains results and investigates open questions. Bring Sapien the alternatives and existing context; the team can help plan the work before the questionnaire is finished.

Put kit versions, balcony-audience coverage and pilot rules in our research brief template. Use a Sapien introduction to agree the immediate instruction study and the work your own team wants to run later.
